East Coast Underground locates private utilities at residential and commercial sites throughout North and South Carolina. Utility location is the process of identifying and labeling utility mains that are underground. These mains may include lines for telecommunication, electricity distribution, natural gas, cable television, fiber optics, traffic lights, street lights, storm drains, water mains, and wastewater pipes. In some locations, major oil and gas pipelines, national defense communication lines, mass transit, rail and road tunnels also compete for space underground.
East Coast Underground uses GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) to locate your "harder to find" buried underground utilities. GPR is your underground pipe locator. GPR is especially helpful in locating utilities that are encased in plastic pipes with a tracer wire attached. GPR can also determine the depth of your underground utilities. GPR will x-ray the ground and produce a detailed image of what is underneath. This image can be stored in our database for your future reference. Let us provide your GPR survey! For more information on our GPR utility locating practices see our GPR page on this website.
When East Coast Underground locates your underground utilities, we paint the ground with the color corresponding to the found utility on the location of the utility. We will also insert flags into the ground of the same corresponding color, making the utility location even more visible. Upon completion of your utility locating project we provide our customers with a standard sketch diagram showing the utility locations. Sketch diagrams also have colored markings corresponding with each utility type.
